GTBANK IN N360M TENANCY MESS
… As Landlord Go To Court Over Rent Non-Payment
One of Nigeria leading financial house, Guaranty Trust Bank (GTB) is in the news again this time not for the excellent services renders to its customers but in an alleged tenancy mess which is in the tune of Nmillion with its landlord of many years.
The financial house who use to operates its head office from 1665, Oyin Jolayemi Street, Victoria Island, Lagos few months back move out of the edifice to occupy a new structure also in Victoria island, Akin Adesola street precisely but according to those in the known the real reason for the change was alleged to have come from it refusal to pay its tenancy rate for 5years to its landlord, First Marina Trust Limited, a Central Bank of Nigeria licenced Finance Company which has since metamorphosed into an Investment Management Company which commenced operations in late 90s.
It was gathered that for like five years ago during the days of its former Managing Director, late Tayo Aderinokun , GTbank has not been paying rent to its landlord, First Marina Trust Ltd, a company owned by Tayo Aderinokun himself but uses his second wife, Salamatu Aderinokun to front the business.
Impeccable sources alleged that the yearly rate for the former office was N72millionn per annum and owing five year amount to N360million. It was revealed that the new Managing Director, Mr. Segun Agbaje blatantly refuse to pay the amount and decided to move to a new location instead of paying such amount to the family of the Aderinokuns.
Those in the known alleged that when First Marina Trust Ltd served GTbank management a letter to notify them of non payment of rentals for five years and also increment in tenancy rate few months ago and instead of paying, the management of GTB decided to move out of the place.
It was also gathered that when First Marina noticed that they moved out of the edifice, it also served them another notice as regards its Allen Avenue branch that belong to First Marina which GTbank used to occupy. GTbank allegedly moved to the next building leaving the First Marina building vacant without payment.
An insider who preferred anonymity claimed that the reason behind this move from First Marina trust fund is to frustrate the activities of Segun Agbaje who was alleged not to be in good terms with late Tayo Aderinokun till his death. It was also revealed that with this development, the Salamatu Aderinokun led First Marina Ltd has vowed to go to court and go to any length to recover it money back from the Segun Agbaje led GTbank.
Efforts to speak with any personnel at the brand communications department of GTbank before going to the press prove abortive as know of them was picking their calls.
